1And it was, when the king sat in his house and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies all around.2And the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I am living in a house of cedars while the ark of God sits in the midst of curtains."3Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you."4That night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying.5Go and say to my servant David, "Thus says the LORD: Is it you who will build me a house for my dwelling?"6For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought up the sons of Israel from Egypt until this day, but I have been walking about in a tent and in a tabernacle.7In all the places where I have walked among all the sons of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to one of the tribes of Israel whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedars?"8And now, this is what you shall say to my servant David: This is what the LORD of hosts says: I have taken you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.9And I have been with you in all that you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you, and I have made for you a great name like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.10And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and I will plant them there. They will dwell securely, and the sons of injustice will not continue to afflict them as in the former time.11And from the day that I commanded judges over my people Israel, and have given you rest from all your enemies, the LORD has told you that the LORD will make a house for you.12When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your seed after you, who will come from your loins, and I will establish his kingdom.13He will build a house for My Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.14I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to me. When he strays, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the strokes of the sons of Adam.15And my steadfast love will not depart from him, just as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.16And your house and your kingdom will be faithful until the everlasting covenant before you; your throne will be established until the everlasting covenant.17Nathan spoke to David according to all these words and according to all this vision.
